Description

A TV cabinet and bookcase made from standard Ikea cabinets. These were finished with a nice strong solid oak worktop. The game consoles, smartphone and books can now be put away without worries. The shelf is equipped with a socket and USB connection.

DIY with solid oak

Have the solid worktops cut to size. Using a router, I cut out a recess for a concealed socket. This socket is a combination of plug and USB. The worktops are sanded smooth by hand. First with a coarse grit. Then with a fine grit. The worktops placed on top of the cupboard. Make sure that the worktops are neatly placed on the underlying cabinet. Then the worktops were glued with silicone. The worktops are clamped with a glue clamp so that they can no longer move. Also screwed in a screw on the inside of the cabinet. The next day the glue clamps were removed. The screws remain in place.
